RULE BOOK

The Double HH Ranch is dedicated to providing a facility for your enjoyment and safety while offering the highest level of competition.

For the comfort and safety of you and your family the following guidelines are in place. We appreciate your understanding and support in complying with them.

GROUND RULES FOR GENERAL ADMISSION

* No drugs, alcohol, or firearms are permitted on the premises of the Double HH Ranch.

* Fighting and profanity will not be permitted.

* Cruelty to, or mistreatment of livestock is not acceptable.

* Horses are not allowed inside the roped off seating area at any time.

* No bareback or double riding allowed on the grounds.

* Dogs should be leashed at all all times.

* Children should not climb on or play near the arena fences.

* No horses or riders allowed in the Arena or round pen when tractors are being operated.

Individual(s) violating these rules are subject to actions including, but not limited to, expulsion from the grounds.

 

DRESS CODE

Individuals wishing to compete are required to wear the following or risk being disqualified:

* long pants or jeans

* cowboy/cowgirl boots

* safety helmets are mandatory for all riders age 10 and under, reguardless of classification the rider is participating within. (if you do not have a helmet, contact a staff member and one will be provided for your use)

* individuals not in compliance with the DHHR dress code will not be allowed on horseback on the grounds, in the arena or the warm-up pen.

 

DHHR MEMBERSHIP

Peewee Class (10 and Under)

* Free membership (not valid for Youth/Open class).

* Earns points for Peewee championship.

* Receive award at the yearend banquet

Youth / Open Class

* Membership can be purchased for $25.00

* Earn points in the season long series.

* Top 5 in each division in each class ( youth and open) will receive awards at the yearend banquet.

 

COMPETITION CLASSIFICATIONS

The DHHR Barrel Racing Association runs in a 4D format based on the NBHA format.

Peewees- age 10 and under; Youth-ages 11-18; Open-any age. Age is determined by age on first day of year (Jan 1, 20xx).

COMPETITION DIVISIONS

The DHHR Barrel Racing Association runs in a 4D format based on the NBHA format.

1st Division (1D)- Riders with the fastest time.

2nd Division (2D)- Competitors who run 1/2 second or slower than the OVERALL fastest time.

3rd Division (3D)- Competitors who run 1 second or slower than the OVERALL fastest time.

4th Division (4D)- Competitors who run 2 seconds or slower than the OVERALL fastest time.

 

COMPETITION RULES (adapted from NBHA rulebook)

1. Shows will begin no earlier than 8:00 pm.

2. A DHHR barrel race is a timed event using three identical barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern.

3. The pattern at a DHHR show must meet the following conditions:

a. A minimum of 15 feet between each of the first two barrels and the side fence.

b. A minimum of 30 feet between the third barrel and the back fence.

c. A minimum of 30 feet between the time line and the first barrel.

4. The ground conditions within the arena must remain consistent throughout the event. The ground around the barrels must be reworked and leveled after each 10 or fewer contestants have competed. An amount less than 10 may be set by the DHHR Staff.

5. Any time the contestant crosses the starting line, time will begin.

6. A contestant will be given a " no time" for missing the pattern.

7. A contestant will be disqualified for running out of turn. It is the contestant's responsibility to know his/ her draw position.

8. A contestant will be given a "no time" for knocking over a barrel. A "no time" will also be given if a barrel is knocked over and it sets up again on either end. Touching a barrel, including to keep it from falling, is permitted without penalty.

9. A contestant will be given a "no time" if the horse or rider falls during the run in such a manner to break the pattern, or if the rider falls off the horse.

10. If a barrel is moved off its marker during the competition, the barrel must be reset prior to the next competitor's run.

11. Contestants may ride any horse, regardless of ownership, and may ride as many horses as they choose in a class. However, a horse may not be shown by more that one person in a class, unless the following conditions are met: (A) Both contestants are members of the same immediately family who reside in the same household (husband, wife, children and grandchildren 21 and under). Children and grandchildren 21 and under who are attending school away from home, but who reside part of the year with their parents or grandparents are included under this rule. (B) Neither contestant is showing any other horse in that class. (C) In no case will the same horse be run more than twice in the same class.

12. Entries for a DHHR class will close when the first horse in that class runs, or at an earlier time as specified on the show bill. Under no circumstances will entries be taken for a class after the first horse in that class has entered the arena.

13. At all DHHR sanctioned shows, the draw shall be done in a random manner, using a computerized random drawing process. Riders with multiple horses must specify a horse with each entry. Each draw position assigned to such riders will be assigned to a specific horse, and the rider must ride the specified horse in the specified position. Under no circumstances will a contestant be allowed to (pick out) their draw position. Once set, the draw may not be changed, except to accommodate entries with the same horse or rider, or entries involving members of the same immediate family, as defined in section A Rule 11a, which has drawn up close to each other. what constitutes " close to each other" will be determined by Show Management; however, a consistent standard should be adhered to for the class. The draw may not be changed to give preference to any rider or to accommodate another commitment of a particular rider such as work or another barrel race.

EARLY DRAW- The first 25 entries of each competition class will be drawn and posted as soon as 25 entries are received in the office. This is to accommodate the contestants who arrive early in order to be able to go home early. The rest of the class will be drawn and posted as soon as possible thereafter.

14. Only one horse may be in the arena at any time during competition.

15. Reruns shall be granted if the timer fails to work properly or if the barrels are not placed properly on their markers. Any penalty incurred on the original run shall not be applied against the rerun, however, any penalty occurring on the rerun shall result in a "no time".

16. Contestants who are given a "no time", either for missing the pattern or knocking down a barrel, may complete the pattern. However, show management may, at its discretion, ask a rider who is taking excessive time to train to leave the arena immediately.

17. DHHR Staff have the right to disqualify any uncontrolled horse which does not begin performance within 3 minutes of the time the rider has been called.

EXHIBITIONS

1. Exhibitions will start approximately at 7:00 pm each week. We will run as many exhibitions as people sign up for.

2. Riders are expected to be ready for their exhibition(s) when their name is called.

3. Exhibitions should be kept under 60 seconds in length. DHHR Staff may, at its discretion, ask a rider who is taking excessive time to train to leave the arena immediately.

 

DISTRIBUTION OF POINTS

DHHR members can earn points for each division as follows:

1st-6pts

2nd-5pts

3rd-4pts

4th-3pts

5th-2pts

6th or greater with a clean run - 1pt

" no time " - 0 pts (Youth / Open Class only)

* Peewee riders get a minumum of 1 point for an appearance.

* Points are earned each week based on where a rider places. Points are not transferable.

* A rider can accumulate points in more than one division if they ride multiple horses.

* A rider placing multiple times within a division only earns points for their highest place in that division. All other riders in that class move up if that occurs.

* If 2 or more riders tie, the points for the tied positions will be added together and divided equally among the riders who tied.

* If 2 or more  riders are tied in points within a division after the last show of the season, there will be a best 2 out of 3 run off to identify the winner. Runoff will be scheduled at a later date as soon as possible. We will not be duplicating awards.

ADDED MONEY NIGHT

The last Tuesday of each month is "Added Money Night", whereby $300.00 is added to the night's payout, $200.00 going to the Open and $100.00 going to the Youth. A minimum of 20 riders in a class is needed for full payout of the added money. If less than 20 riders are signed up for a class, the money will be prorated based on the number of entries; $5 dollars for each Youth Class rider and $10 dollars for each Open Class rider.

 BARREL RACE CANCELLATIONS/ RAIN OUTS

On weeks where the Jr. NBHA World Show ( July ) and NBHA World Show ( October ) are held, the Tuesday night barrel race will either be canceled or no points will be awarded for that week (added money may be applied at DHHR Staff discretion). If a barrel race is rained out, it will not be rescheduled. Should an "Added Money Night" barrel race be rained out, the decision to roll the added money over to the next event will be at the discretion of the DHHR Staff.

AWARDS BANQUET

In the spring of the following year, DHHR members gather for a banquet, where we celebrate the previous season accomplishments. At the awards presentation, the top five point earners in each division in the Youth and Open classes earn awards. Peewee riders also get an award for participation in the DHHR series. There are also many other special awards presented to staff and other competitors.
